We're Still Here . . .

Sorry I've been absent from these halls for so long. Here's what we've been up to (note: each of these could be their own post. For further details, feel free to contact us):

-One of our speech pathologists left, so we're a two-man crew doing a three-man job. Busy, busy!
-Meghan B. came to visit while attending a speech conference here in town. Fun to see a good friend again!
-General Conference!!
-Our newest Little Golden Book: Brent Visits the Urgent Care (followed by the sequel, Brent Visits the ER) It was basically a revolution within his intestines. Thankfully the coup has been quelled and Brent still has all his pieces in the right place (at one point we were worried it was appendicitis, which would require subsequent removal of said appendix).
-Bruce cuts his first tooth.
-Bruce masters sitting up.
-And rolling over
-Winco is his favorite store.
-Jenn is studying for the VitalStim certification course next weekend in San Fransisco.
-The Hills buy a piano.

I promise, I'll be better in the future. I've just been treading water as it is. Love to all!

A Day at the Park

I love the swings! Something about the freedom of the movement, the rhythm of the squeaking chains, being suspended between the sky and the ground. Apparently, Bruce agrees with me.

Spring Fever

March came in like a lion. We had lots of rain and clouds. It felt like the Mother Earth was spring cleaning. I love this time of year - a time of newness and rebirth.

With that gusty entry, I felt the need to beautify my own little sphere. I have long wanted flowers on my little balcony, and resolved that this year was the year to remedy my dreary existence.

So, a couple of weeks ago, I begged Brent to take me to buy pots and flowers. Since we’re also trying to become more self-reliant, we decided to start an herb garden. I’m still not convinced that we get adequate sunlight to grow vegetables, so we got some broccoli for a trial run.

Life already feels happier!

Lost in Translation

Today my co-worker was working with one of our Spanish-speaking patients. Part of treatment involved an activity like the game Scattegories. The letter they were to formulate answers with was the letter E.

His answers:
1. Name a fruit: Estrawberry
2. Something to eat for lunch: Esandwich.
3. School subjects: Esocial Estudies

Made my day.

Lost . . .

. . . my willpower to do anything productive once I get home from work. Granted, I think spending an hour at the pediatrician's office before I actually could come home. The ear infection should be gone, but I still have one uncomfortable little tyke.

Anyway, if you happen to see my willpower, please send it my way. I have quite the list of to-dos, and I'm going to need it's help if I'm going to even make a dent.

Independent Study

Due to the influx of Spanish-speaking patients I've had in the last month, I have been quite frustrated with my inadequacy to meet their need. True, I grew up in Arizona, and one could wrongly conjecture that I would have gained at least a cursory grasp of the language. If by cursory you mean I could count to 10 and name all 12 months in order, well, then yes, I had a cursory grasp of the language.

Working in my field, I have actually picked up passable Spanish. Passable enough that I can meet basic needs for my patients. I can thank my brother for helping me with my accent and for fixing my word usage, but I still feel insufficient.

So, tonight I buckled and started looking for a free online Spanish class - just something to help me be more prepared.

I wasn't quite prepared for the list of on-line courses available. Namely bowling and intermediate swimming. I just don't think I'll be taking my computer anywhere near the pool any time soon.

And here's the cuteness factor for the day:

I love this little face!
